The Vacum created by the demise of the Blackburn parties was soon filled as the dance virus mutated and spread to all corners of the cultural map. After the introduction of the Increased Penalties Act(1990) and the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act(1994) dance culture split into two parallel universes, as, on the one hand, club culture swallowed the poisoned pill of respectablility and built its elegant castles in the sky, and, on the other hand, the free party scene forged links with a wider countercultural movement with its potent combination of traveller mobility and sound system ampliphonics.
