Quite a few people know that for the good of humanity and sanity I have already banned IE6 from the site.
In addition to that anyone using an Apple product/browser to browse my website will not be able to do so in a short amount of time. This will continue as long as Apple continue to forbid developers from accesing Apple APIs through an intermediary layer in the new SDK.
I cannot in all good faith continue in ANY way to support a company with such dictator type tendancies towards a community of developers. The world does not work this way any more, we're getting more and more open, as it should be. Apple's recent stance on Flash is disgusting and only serves to isolate itself and more to the point developers. So isolated it will be, from here anyway.
If you disagree with this don't email me, email Apple and voice your concerns with them.

Been thinking of my Dad quite a bit today, not sure why I have. This year it will be 10 years since he died, I was 24 at the time and I am now 33.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
Twenty four
and there's so much more
Live alone in a paradise
That makes me think of two.
Love lost, such a cost,
Give me things
that don't get lost.
Like a coin that won't get tossed
Rolling home to you.
Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.
Lullabies, look in your eyes,
Run around the same old town.
Doesn't mean that much to me
To mean that much to you.
I've been first and last
Look at how the time goes past.
But I'm all alone at last.
Rolling home to you.
Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Here's to you Dad, you're not forgotten x

Tagged in: smoking, quitting, blog.

As of Monday next week I will begin what will probably be the task of a lifetime as I give up smoking after 20 years. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a lot of people will automatically assume that giving up is easy, well I don't know if it is or isn't, as I have never tried. I'm obviously rather, well nervous, I guess. I don't know why, perhaps it's the idea of failure or maybe it is because I actually enjoy the habit; or maybe it is because I'm frightened of having the mood swings and headaches often associated with giving up. Either way I know deep down that it will not be a pleasant experience.
When I said I enjoyed the habit, I think that was a little white lie. I think I enjoy the structure of the habit. Arguably the only cigarettes I truly enjoy are the ones after a good meal and the first one in the morning with my coffee. Other than those I guess the rest are habitual and excuses to remove my sorry arse outside of the office.
I'm going for the cold turkey method, I figured that if I was going to give this a shot I would try the hardest method first and if I fail at that then I can try the slightly easy methods of patches or tablets provided by the good doctor. Why? I want the experience of giving up to be so hard that I don't ever take up the habit again, sounds stupid but I know my psychology, if I go through mental torture to quit I probably won't ever want to go through it again and so I will give up. If I take the soft option I'll lapse and tell myself "hey it's easy, just get more of those tablets/patches, you can give up any time you want" - That will lead me down the inevitable path of the Ying Yang of smoker... non-smoker... have a drink, smoke some ciggys, give up again etc... No thanks.
I'm in my early 30's, I've smoked properly since I was 15, spent a great deal of time in smoky clubs, pubs and I am now starting to notice the effects of that - it is time to knock it on the head.
