First five people to comment here with a good reason why I should give them free* blog and web hosting for a limited period of time can have it. If you like the service you can then pay a small fee.

I'll decide what's good or not.

*I want a link back somewhere visible that shows on all your pages.

Yes, this has been a helpful public broadcast.

Something Else

I'm also about to launch something new, well new for me. I'm sure I'll get slated to death for "copying" the digg concept but hey, they stole it too. Now remember a time, oOoo back in 2002 when I had karma (+/-) added to every post, you know exactly like digg (up/down); yeah doesn't seem so new now eh? Well I'm taking that and just making a website based around that theory, except everyone can submit to it. I'm not asking people to write for the site more like just submitting either stuff they have written or content elsewhere that they found interesting. Could be anything (bar the usual, no adult, racism or whatever unless it's to illustrate a VALID point).

However, without revealing the name, oh whatever... the url will be web-tribe.com and basically I am thinking of creating two or more groups, or "tribes" on there that can submit stuff. When you first join you'll be given a choice of which to join. You will then submit for that "tribe", as a further extension, people can band together to form "other" tribes that if enough of you ask a new one will be created. Everything else will be left to the social rules that I expect to arise out of it (read: got no idea!).

At the end of the day it's a user-driven website but with a tribal twist to make it more interesting. Ideas for names of the tribes, good/bad, red/blue... I'm looking at win/fail as names out of amusement but anything would be helpful. I guess as, or should I say IF the site evolves we'll have things like tribal elders (time spent and quality submissions) so the "look at me factor" will be part of it (why bother unless eh?).

Unlike digg I'll not be removing entries, being bought by companies to spirit submissions about them up to the main page (you can however make me an offer here nudge nudge).

Why do this?

Well I think digg is, frankly, a bag of pants. Enough said.

A good reason for some freebies . . . . . . s'ok

Gimmie gimmie gimmie. Dumbass.

But seriously, you've got an interesting concept here, and I'll be watching and listening with interest.

PS. May be needing your expertise on some java/ajax coding freelancing if your interested. Will need a quote ;-)

I like the Tribe idea mate, but have no opinion on how they could be organised...though I get a bit scared off by the forming gangs aspect....anarchy (or rather a true democracy (oooh la-de-da, hark at me)) seems so much more appropriate to such a scheme, but this is neither the time nor the place for such a potentially heavy subject...I'd still sign up though!

I have a friend who is beta-testing an info sharing web/mobile wossname right now...I'll see if you can be added as a techie Beta if you'd like (and have the time)?

If I had more spare time I'd be on your hosting thing too....I have migration issues I'm sure....and now I've got the big machine up and running I might as well use it ;)

meh...

Damnit! I had been thinking creating a "tribe"-esque site for a while as well. (ask patten, he'll verify) meh... with my current level of motivation, it probably would've never happened anyway. And, if anybody can pull it off (and do it right), it's you, tek. :)
