Goodbye Windows Hello Debian!

Oh yes it is and I for one am glad this week is out the way now and I can look forward to the weekend. It's been a busy and stressy week for me with one thing and another. Work is busy busy busy and zapping my time quite a lot. I'm desperate to re-write the core engine that runs this site and give it a real API that I can hook in to. The last few big re-writes have seen me just gaffer tape it all up together with basically everything I require. I need to re-evaluate that and anything core should stay that and extra stuff should really be plug-in based. I think it would make sense; not something I make a great deal of most of the time.
At home I have almost fully binned Windows ™ off. I've kept one partition with it on so I can get my broadband and test sites in IE but that really is all I am now using it for. For a long time I have run Debian side by side with Windows but I feel now that I am no longer developing for the Windows desktop that I can in fact just fire the whole thing off now. Debian is a distro I have liked from the start but mine is a custom version of it that also sits on my laptop for work. It just has everything that I need and none of the crap I don't.
I've had my ups and downs with Windows ™ and I'm totally prepared to admit that it has served it's purpose but I feel now that Microsoft just can't compete at the level that a *nix based OS can. I've run pretty much every single distro of Windows that have ever been on offer and only Win98 has been the all-rounder out of all of them. Debian with KDE just knocks the socks of any Winblows install. All my gear just works out the box with it where as I have had serious problems with XP and it's bluetooth support, network issues and basic stability!
Goodbye Windows ™

Yeah I remember that post! I have the same problem as my ISP won't provide drivers for linux so I have to keep one machine with Windows on.
Yeah I've been thinking of ditching the login totally from the system to be honest. It's been bugging me so I guess it's safe to say it's been bugging other people. Yer never know I might actually get around to it one of these days! ![]()
